Programming

So making ends meet as a teacher has always been a bit of a struggle, and now that I’m married and my wife may have a few years to go before holding a lucrative career, I am wondering if I can take a computer job to better support the family.

Possibilities:

  • Master more skills on pluralsight.com or similar
    • Java
    • Python
    • PHP/SQL
    • Others?
  • App development
    • Shotokan app?
    • Quidditch app?
    • Anything else?
  • Get SalesForce certifications and become an admin
    • Trailhead
    • Certification exams
    • Anything else??

Have some great ideas for a quidditch app, gonna develop them on another page. Suffice it to say it should have some synergy, if it works out.

The troubling thing about all this is the timeline, because a timeline of starting work in the tech industry looks really different than the timeline of starting work at another educational institution.

Also don’t forget that enrolling or not enrolling in UHV is an option! Probably good to go with it but we’ll see.

  • DECEMBER
    • Finish fall semester and enjoy a bit of break
    • Investigate SalesForce
    • Investigate app construction
  • JANUARY
    • Commit to SalesForce or not
    • Start certifications if applicable
    • Decide whether to teach summer school or not
  • FEBRUARY
    • Continue prep
  • MARCH
    • Interviews for college jobs??
  • APRIL
    • Stuff
  • MAY
    • End of spring semester
    • Start NCBO & summer school??
    • Start new job perhaps
  • JUNE
    • Summer school??
    • Start new job likely if that direction
  • JULY
    • Start new job for sure
  • AUGUST
    • Start new teaching job, if any

App programming:

Making an app from scratch

App programming is in Swift, which is in the C family so should be easy to use at the basics.
