The math department needs to increase enrollment in college classes of students who are below the cutoff for college math due to the TSI scores.

Luckily they have money available to bring it up. Unfortunately it’s also a daunting task to get so many underqualified students to pass college classes.

IDEAS

• The human connection is paramount. The students need to have someone safe they can connect with who can help them and can help them prioritize correctly.
  • The professor is supposed to fill this role. But there are strict boundaries that a typical professor observes, including treating the students with distance, freedom and respect to make adult choices. With students established as low-performing, someone has to impose a stronger voice on the student.
  • There needs to be someone whose specific job it is to check in on these students and ensure they are getting their work done
