This is not an ambition I think I will regret not satisfying. My bachelor’s degree in Biology from HMC (highly prestigious) and master’s degree from CSUEB (4.0 GPA bitchezzzz) stand on their own and have brought me a career I am proud of.
One of the ways to advance in my pay is to have additional credits that are valuable to the college. I don’t consider my mathematical skills to be sufficient to earn 18 graduate hours in chemistry or physics, but what I do know I am capable of (and what interests me) is the field of kinesiology. I know it would enhance my ability to teach karate and coach quidditch.
The main problem is that I’m not sure it will count as service to the college with the current issues with PE classes and the Texas core. Also I don’t think it will pay for itself if I have to pay for the whole thing myself. I could possibly find some sorts of scholarships to help but it would still be dicey. Also I don’t think I can do this while Karen needs so much support, more likely once she has her career I think it would be more doable.
I’m definitely not in a rush but it is something I think about.
UPDATE:
So it turns out that right about when I published this ambition (October 2019), UHV finalized its new MS Sport Management program! I KNOW RIGHT! So I applied in Spring 2020 (while COVID was hitting, yikes) and was accepted! I’m currently taking the Sport Marketing course and doing very well. Yay!
So here’s a projected timeline, based on my ability to take one class for “free” (free tuition, fees are still like $600 but WORTH IT):
- Fall 2020: 1 class
- Spring 2021: 1 class
- Summer 2021: 1 class during summer school, probably layered with moving to Houston
- Fall 2021: 1 class online, probably still with COVID schedule so easier to complete work at home since a lot of work will be online only
- Spring 2021: 1 class online, probably be off COVID schedule by now so juggling might get harder
- Summer 2021: 1 class online, juggled with whatever else is happening in summer
- AT THIS POINT, I will have 6 classes complete already! Good enough for having a second field at VC and probably elsewhere (though VC doesn’t currently consider it “service to the college”
- The last four classes could be finished:
- Fall 2021
- Spring 2022
- Summer 2022
- Fall 2022
- OR I could shell out for doubling them up and finish sooner! Or just not finish it at all if I have to, they’ll still probably count for some things
Note that these courses expire starting in 2024, so stay on track!
ALSO note even if I never get that second Master’s it’s already coming in handy!! It’s an adventure!
